Winton Library Closure
News Report from the Winton Library.
The Winton Library closed today at 5pm because of issues relating to mould and fungal contamination.
We have recently had testing carried out on parts of the building and received a report earlier today recommending closure of the library and office while further investigations are carried out.
The safety of our customers and staff is our absolute priority – hence this decision was made as soon as the results of the testing were received.
We are working through options but will be aiming to temporarily relocate the library and SDC office to another site as soon as possible.
At this stage we don’t know how long the library will remain closed as it will be dependent on further results. We need to carry out a detailed examination of the building to find out how bad the contamination is and also establish whether asbestos is present in the building.
This can be done only when the building is closed to the public, due to the potential for contamination when the mould is disturbed.
We understand the closure and relocation will cause disruptions for our customers and we will keep you informed of further developments as they happen.
Please talk to staff if you have further questions or email us at libraries@southlanddc.govt.nz
Thank you.
